Постоянный комитет [standing committee] Палаты представителей [House of Representatives] Конгресса США в составе девяти членов, созданный в 1945. Относился к числу комитетов Конгресса по расследованиям [investigating committees, investigative powers], перед которыми ставилась задача выяснения состояния дел в области соблюдения законодательства и внесения рекомендаций по контролю за этим процессом. В 1950 в разгар маккартизма [McCarthy Era] и вслед за принятием Закона о внутренней безопасности [Internal Security Act of 1950] Комитет по иностранным делам [Foreign Relations Committee] Сената создал аналогичный Подкомитет по внутренней безопасности [Internal Security Subcommittee]. Оба эти органа занимались расследованием подрывной (в основном коммунистической) деятельности в США, проводили слушания [hearing] в отношении лиц, подозреваемых в такой деятельности или в членстве в Коммунистической партии США [Communist Party of the United States]. Если подозреваемый отказывался давать показания, ссылаясь на Пятую поправку [take the Fifth], ему предъявлялось обвинение в неуважении к Конгрессу и его дело передавалось в суд. В суд могло быть также передано дело о лжесвидетельстве. (Именно по этой статье, а не по обвинению в шпионаже, был осужден А. Хисс [Hiss, Alger]). Оба комитета сыграли главную роль в развертывании кампании преследования либералов, сторонников президента Ф. Д. Рузвельта [Roosevelt, Franklin Delano (FDR)] и его "Нового курса" [New Deal], сотрудников Госдепартамента [Department of State, U.S.], а также других инакомыслящих. Кампанию развернули члены Палаты представителей М. Дайс [Dies, Martin J.] из Техаса, Р. Никсон [Nixon, Richard Milhous] из Калифорнии и сенатор из Висконсина Дж. Маккарти [McCarthy, Joseph Raymond]. В 1969 Комитет по антиамериканской деятельности был реорганизован, а в 1975 вся деятельность Конгресса по расследованию антиамериканской деятельности была свернута.
